Legendary Speakeasy Turned Steakhouse Bottles Private Label Merlot
New York, NY, October 20, 2003 – Frankie & Johnnie’s Steakhouse has raised the bar again for traditional steakhouse dining. Eleven months after opening their fourth location (second in Manhattan) they have added a signature Merlot to their already extensive wine selections. The private label “Frankie & Johnnie’s” Merlot is bottled at the Willamette Valley Vineyards in Turner, Oregon and will be available at each location by October 21, 2003.
“Frankie & Johnnie’s Steakhouse has and will always be committed to providing our faithful patrons with an exceptional menu including our signature steaks and the best wine choices, in terms of value, taste, and body,” explains Bill Chimos, COO of Frankie & Johnnie’s Ventures, LLC. “Each of our four locations has an extensive wine list that has been recognized and awarded with the prestigious Wine Spectator Award of Excellence. Bottling our own wine felt like the logical next step.”
Frankie & Johnnie’s Merlot is an elegant companion to steak, seafood, game and other hearty red meat dishes. This Merlot has a soft and warm taste with lingering flavors of spices, blackberries and a hint of chocolate. It was harvested with the sweet, ripe and robust flavors of black currant, blackberries, brown sugar, molasses and cloves.
Bill Chimos has been working with Monique Bisson of Willamette Valley Vineyards for a year in selecting the Merlot. Ms. Bisson adds “Oregon’s warm climate provides an ideal environment for producing sweet grapes that ripen quickly—the perfect combination for a refined Merlot.”
Frankie & Johnnie’s Steakhouse, a New York institution since 1926, has expanded its operation to four locations and continues to be a family owned and operated enterprise. They also bottle their signature steak sauce and have designed their own steak knives which are served/used in each location and available for purchase for your home or as a gift.
Frankie & Johnnie’s Steakhouse has been a celebrated New York fixture since 1926, having opened as a speakeasy at the height of Prohibition. To gain access, patrons knocked on an unmarked door and used the password “FRANKIE” when a small peephole was opened. With admittance, a confirmation reply of “JOHNNIE” was heard. The steakhouse became a favorite haunt of the stars of stage and screen whose autographed photos are the principal decoration. The original location, 269 West 45th Street, has three offspring – Hoboken, NJ, Rye, NY and the newest at 32 West 37th Street. Frankie & Johnnie’s serves prime cuts of USDA certified dry aged beef as well as chops, chicken, seafood and pasta dishes. Please visit www.frankieandjohnnies.com for more information.
